DKI Jakarta -
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI) has partnered with the Georgetown University Asia-Pacific Foundation to accelerate Jakarta’s transformation into a global city. The collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Dean of Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific, Yuhki Tajima.
This partnership marks a pivotal step toward realizing Jakarta’s long-term vision of ranking among the Top 20 Global Cities within the next 20 years. Governor Pramono aims to elevate the city’s position in the Global City Index (GCI) from 74th to 58th in the next five years.
“Jakarta faces serious challenges in education quality, workforce competitiveness, and societal innovation capacity. The presence of an international university will be instrumental in enhancing access to and quality of education in the capital,” said Governor Pramono.
He considers Georgetown University a strategic partner in improving education quality, particularly for policy makers and civil servants (ASN) within the Jakarta administration. With Georgetown’s strong reputation in international policy studies and its global academic network, the partnership is expected to provide new pathways for civil servants to build capacities that align with global challenges.
“I hope this collaboration with Georgetown University will enrich Jakarta’s research-based policy-making and promote the city’s engagement in international research networks that support urban transformation. I express my deep appreciation to the Georgetown University Asia-Pacific Foundation for its commitment to building a strategic partnership with Jakarta. May this collaboration continue to grow and bring positive impact to Jakarta’s development,” Governor Pramono added.
Meanwhile, Dean Yuhki Tajima of Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific expressed his appreciation for the partnership with Pemprov DKI Jakarta. He looks forward to helping Jakarta establish a robust research and urban policy ecosystem.
“Through this partnership, we aim to deliver analysis that can support Jakarta in its journey toward becoming a leading global city. Once again, I extend my sincere thanks for this tremendous opportunity. We hope to make meaningful contributions to Jakarta’s growth,” said Yuhki.
