"I want to restrict the use of water. If the World Health Organization (WHO) does the same, the needy only uses 10 cubic per month," he said, at City Hall, Friday (1/22).

According to him, if its use is not restricted, the irresponsible people from Drinking Water Company (PAM) will sell the water expensive. Whereas, they have been getting subsidies from the city administration in its use.

On this issue, Basuki asked the PAM Jaya to draft regulation regarding the restriction of the use of raw water. Jakarta Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) is also required to reproduce the pipe connection in homes thus water misuse can be prevented.

"We give them subsidy and you cannot sell the water arbitrarily. You know it is hampering the poor people and they have to buy water by Rp 25-Rp 50 thousand per cubic. I better connect the pipe to make its tariff about Rp 7 thousand or Rp 10 thousand. We will change the pattern," he asserted.
