Jakarta Achieved First Place of Most Global City

A.T. Kearny, a renowned global consultant company in industrial and public sector line, places Jakarta in the first rank of 34 cities in the world as the most global city. The result is delivered directly to Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

But, Jakarta needs to improve education intuitions with international scale that is one of the aspect in which Jakarta is still left behind from other cities

Head of Asia Pasific A.T. Kearney, John Kurtz, stated that from the conducted study, Jakarta has the potential to evolve until becoming developed city like New York. For the last two years, there are 34 cities in a number of countries that were analyzed with 24 parameters divided in 5 dimensions, namely business activities, human resources, information exchanging, social culture experience, and political stability.

From the result, Jakarta ranks the first, followed by Manila (Filipina), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Sao Paulo (Brazil), New Delhi (India), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Bogota (Kolumbia), Mumbai (India), etc.

Facing Asian Community, Students Must Master Foreign Languages

According to supported data, Kurtz continued, New York (USA) and London (England) are still the top two global developed cities. Jakarta, Manila, and those cities are the most possible cities to catch up and improve global position in the next decade.

According to Kurtz, Jakarta achieved such achievement due to many significant improvement done by Jakarta Provincial Government. The scoring was assessed from the conducive business practice in Jakarta which marked by the high per capita revenue and significant improvement of human resources.

The most supported action begins with the initiation of mass transportation project such as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), monorail, and procurement of hundreds of TransJakarta buses. Moreover, Jakarta is currently building a new port to support import and export activities.

“But, Jakarta needs to improve education intuitions with international scale that is one of the aspect in which Jakarta is still left behind from other cities,” said Kurtz at City Hall, Tuesday (4/15).

Jokowi, who received the study result, responded positively this achievement which will be used for evaluation and correction material in the future.

“We respond this scoring positively. It can be used for our evaluation and correction, which one is right and which is not,” he told.

Jokowi assessed that public service becomes one of the aspects in the scoring. For this, city has provided Jakarta Health Card (KJS) and Jakarta Smart Card (KJP).

“There were many aspects assessed, things that are related to transportation which just started but is on progress. As for flood problem, reservoirs are being cleaned (dredged). The third is related to KJS and KJP,” he uttered.

It is hoped that this study will give a complete description of Jakarta through current measure and position as well as its possible development in the future along with complete city arrangement parameters.
