10,000 Policemen Ready to Secure Easter Celebrations

About 10,000 City Police personnel will be deployed to secure the celebrations of Easter Eve and Good Friday which falls on Friday (4/18).

City Police Chief Insp. Gen. Dwi Priyanto stated that his party does not want any religious celebration got disturbed in its procession. That is why that amount of personnel deployed.

“That (10,000 personnel) is one-third of total personnel. We want everything to run well without any security disturbance. For big churches like the Cathedral, we placed security officers, metal detector personnel to identify visitors’ belongings, and bomb squad,” he said, Thursday (4/17).

550 Special Police Personnel to Guard City Parks

Priyanto asserted that the security measures will be done by involving all ranks of Resort Police as well as Sector Police to secure the churches in their jurisdictions.

“Later, there will be personnel patrolling each area. So, patrol officers and personnel deployed on location will support each other,” he told.

According to Priyanto, the amount of personnel deployed in churches would be adjusted to the needs in the field and also based on level of mass doing worship there. Although he did not explain the techniques nor the security mechanism, Priyanto stressed that his party will check closely the churches which considered need security measures.

“The point is that we have made plans and anticipation related to the security for tonight’s Easter Eve,” he uttered.

From the inventory done, the total amount of churches in City Police jurisdiction is 1,129 churches.
