Illegal Huts Rampant Again under Wiyoto Wiyono Toll

Even though had been controlled many times, the presence of illegal huts are rampant again under Wiyoto Wiyono Toll until the area of Sungai Bambu, Warakas, and Papanggo, Tanjung Priok Sub-District, North Jakarta. Most of those huts are inhabited by scavengers and packed by electronic appliances such as television, radio, electric fan, water dispenser, until gas stove.

Rather than renting a house which is expensive, we prefer to stay here. Besides, electricity is available here

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, the notification sign stating prohibition to establish building in the location is considered merely display by the scavengers. Even eviction threat that could be done at any time North Jakarta Administration does not make them afraid.

“Rather than renting a house which is expensive, we prefer to stay here. Besides, electricity is available here,” said Handarto (30), a scavenger from Cirebon who with his wife and colleagues lives in a block under the toll road since three months ago, Sunday (4/20).

More Than 300 PMKS in N. Jakarta Netted

Responding this matter, Head of Warakas Urban Village, Tulus Harjo, admitted that his party has sent notification letters to the huts’ inhabitants not to live there anymore. Unfortunately, the letters were ignored, and tens of illegal huts are still standing firm. Because of that, he asks PT Citra Marga Nusa Pala (CMNP), as the toll management, to also join in controlling illegal huts under its property.

“We often sent notification letters to them (illegal huts’ inhabitants). As a matter of fact, on last February, I and (Tanjung Priok) Sub-District Head, (North Jakarta) Cleanliness Sub-Department, and related parties together urged them (to move),” he stated.

According to Harjo, most of the huts are used as place to stay, animal cage, and business place such as stall. Such a thing is violating Bylaw No. 8/2007 about Public Order.
