One of the municipalities in the capital city that is often hit by flood is South Jakarta. In order to make the residents there ready in facing flood, South Jakarta Administrative City Government is establishing Disaster Alert Village (KSB) in urban villages prone to flood, namely Ulujami, Bukit Duri, and Pondok Pinang.

“Last year, there have been three urban villages. This year, the urban villages proposed to be established into KSB are Bintaro, Bangka, and Rawajati,” stated Head of Social Aid Section for South Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Sumadi, Saturday (1/4).

According to Sumadi, with status as KSB, those urban villages are now having residents who are ready to face disaster. This is because those residents are now having proper skills in handling disaster, as well as have been equipped with adequate nature stocks.

“The residents are trained to face disaster. As for the nature stocks, they are in form of rice, instant noodles, soy sauce, ketchup, and mineral water. So, disaster handling effort will be quicker, does not have to wait for us,” he uttered.

Another advantage of urban village becoming KSB is that its residents will be able to get additional nature stocks in faster time and easier way without having to go through complicated procedures.

“If the nature stocks ran out, they just need to call Social Department to ask for delivery (of additional nature stocks). So, it will not be complicated and gone through data recording as well as many bureaucracies,” he told.

In addition, public kitchens will also be set up in KSB urban villages. For information, at this time in Bukit Duri, Ulujami, and Pondok Pinang there have been five public kitchens set up, complete with cooking utilities.

“Those public kitchens can produce meals for 1,000 souls in an hour,” finished Sumadi
