Illegal parking which triggers severe traffic congestion are still rampant in West Jakarta. Ironically, although the condition has going on for a long time, West Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department never completely resolved it.

As seen along Jalan Kyai Tapa, from Roxi towards Grogol. Despite a parking ban plank has been installed, yet the area as long as 500 meters is still used as a parking lot for four-wheeled vehicles, precisely in front of Sumber Waras Hospital until Trisakti University. Those vehicles mostly belong to college students and hospital employees.

Basri (40), Sumber Waras Hospital security officer, disclosed that location has been used as illegal parking area for dozens of years. Therefore, he hopes related unit to be more serious in doing control and giving firm sanction to the vehicle owners.

“ A raid was held three months ago. But post-raid, illegal parking is rampant again ,” he said, Wednesday (4/23).

Similar condition is also spotted in Pasar Pagi area, Roa Malaka Urban Village, Tambora Sub-District, that becomes parking lot for motorcycles and trucks. While on Jalan Outer Ring Road, from Cengkareng towards Kamal, or precisely in Seribu Ruko area, tens of trucks are parked on roadside every day until causing traffic congestion. Then on Jalan PD Pasar Jaya Slipi, the area is often used as base by Mikrolet M 24 (Slipi-Kebon Jeruk) drivers to pick up and drop off passengers.

Responding this matter, West Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department Acting Chief, Anton Parura, explained that to eliminate illegal parking, his party has routinely conducted raid by removing tire valves and ticketing vehicle owners. But due to lack of personnel and people’s awareness to park in legal place, the raid becomes suboptimal.

“From January-March, we have controlled hundreds of cars and motorcycles by removing tire valves and ticketing vehicle owners,” he stated.
