Personnel Deployed for Mosque Cleanup Across Jakarta

The Jakarta Environment Agency has deployed thousands of janitors to clean mosques and prayer rooms (musala) across the capital to welcome the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri/2026.

To worship in peace and comfort

The initiative involves the agency’s regional offices across all six administrative cities and regencies, the Water Body Waste Management Unit, and sub-district sanitation task forces.

Working hand-in-hand with mosque management and local authorities, the teams are conducting a massive cleanup to ensure that houses of worship are spotless, orderly, and comfortable for congregants.

Pramono Calls on Residents to Maintain Peace and Harmony During Ramadan

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto stated that the activity reflects the city government's commitment to supporting residents in observing Ramadan more solemnly.

“We want the community to be able to worship in peace and comfort. Hence, our personnel are on the ground cleaning both the interiors and exteriors of these houses of worship, as well as the surrounding environment,” he expressed, Tuesday (2/17).

The comprehensive cleanup, underway since Thursday (2/12), includes a thorough sweep of main prayer halls, ablution areas, courtyards, and drainage systems. The agency is also providing specialized handling for electronic waste (e-waste) and bulky waste commonly found in residential neighborhoods and public spaces.

Beyond the cleanup itself, the initiative serves as a catalyst to bolster community spirit and environmental stewardship, particularly around places of worship.

“Ramadan is a time to reinforce the values of togetherness and compassion. Hopefully, this activity inspires residents to take communal responsibility for the cleanliness of their respective neighborhoods,” he added.
