Public Services and Social Protection Prioritized by Pramono-Rano

The Jakarta Provincial Government has implemented various strategic programs and policies during the first year of Governor Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno's administration. These efforts include strengthening public services and social protection for the community.

Expanding access to education is also a concern

Jakarta City Council's Deputy Chairwoman, Rani Mauliani said a number of flagship programs by the Jakarta Provincial Government deserve appreciation. These include strengthening the social safety net, improving access to healthcare services through optimizing healthcare facilities, and ensuring service security for Premium Assistance Recipients (PBI).

"Expanding access to education is also a concern, including through free private school programs for the underprivileged," she said, Friday (2/20).

She added that bureaucratic reform and acceleration of digital-based services are also important parts of the transformation of the Jakarta Provincial Government's governance under the leadership of Governor Pramono and Deputy Governor Rano Karno.

Nevertheless, Rany provided several notes for future improvements. First, the need to strengthen data-based monitoring and evaluation to ensure all programs are truly on target. Second, maintaining consistency in controlling regional inflation and stabilizing the prices of basic necessities.

"Third, development should not only focus on physical infrastructure, but must also touch on improving the quality of human resources," she added.

In the social services and health sector, Rany assessed that implementation has generally been quite good, particularly in maintaining access to services for vulnerable populations. However, continuous updating of the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) is necessary to ensure that no one is left out of assistance or health services.

Regarding the free private school program, she stated that the policy is a progressive step to expand access to education and ease the burden on parents. However, education quality monitoring mechanisms and funding transparency must be strengthened to ensure the program remains sustainable without compromising the quality of learning.

Meanwhile, efforts to reduce stunting rates, nutritional interventions, family education, and cross-sector collaboration have been deemed positive. However, Rany said, their success depends heavily on consistent support at the urban village level and strengthening the role of community health centers and health cadres.

"In general, the first year is a phase of consolidation and restructuring. The Jakarta City Council will continue to carry out its oversight function and provide constructive input to ensure the Jakarta Provincial Government's performance is more effective and has a direct impact on the welfare of Jakarta residents," she emphasized.
