North Jakarta Raid Nets 637 Bottles of Illicit Alcohol

The North Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), joining forces with the TNI and National Police, has confiscated 637 bottles of illegal liquor during a major sweep across six sub-districts at the start of the holy month.

North Jakarta Satpol PP Head, Budhy Novian stated that the operation was launched to keep the peace and ensure the region remains on an even keel throughout Ramadan. The move also serves as a push to enforce Local Regulation No. 8/2007 on Public Order.

"This is a firm stance to ensure the community can observe Ramadan with peace of mind and solemnity," he remarked, Monday (2/23)

He explained that 165 joint personnel was mobilized, with deployment numbers tailored to the specific needs and conditions of each sub-district.

Budhy hoped that the synergy between authorities and the public would continue to flourish to keep the peace, ensuring the region remains secure not only throughout Ramadan but also for the long haul.

“We’re calling on residents to pitch in and help maintain order in their neighborhoods. If you spot any activities flouting the rules, blow the whistle and report it to officials immediately. Public participation is the linchpin of a safe and orderly North Jakarta,” he clarified.

North Jakarta Satpol PP’s Operation Head, Aries Cahyadi added that the haul consisted of a wide variety of brands.

“We pulled 637 bottles from several kiosks. The raids were conducted with a persuasive and humane touch, ensuring the entire operation went without a hitch,” he noted.

He explained that all evidence has been logged at the North Jakarta Mayor’s office for official documentation (BAP). The stash is currently being held in custody while waiting for the court to give the green light for its destruction.

Beyond the booze crackdown, Aries noted that the agency was also ramping up efforts to tackle social vices, including nipping brawls in the bud, clamping down on street thuggery, drug enforcement, and keeping tabs on nightlife venues.

"Through these intensive monitoring and enforcement efforts, we aim to ensure the city remains on an even keel throughout Ramadan,” he concluded.
