Legislator Backs Move to Widen KJMU Net to Doctoral Studies

Legislative Council Commission E Member, Ghozi Zulazmi has given the thumbs up to Governor Pramono Anung’s plan to widen the net of the Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU) to include doctoral (S3) programs.

Jakarta’s future as a global hub requires high-caliber human resources

Zulazmi noted that the plan is music to the ears for Jakartans, especially aspiring scholars. As Jakarta sets its sights on becoming a Global City, he emphasized that the capital needs top-tier talent to stay competitive.

"Jakarta’s future as a global hub requires high-caliber human resources who are ready to bring their A-game," he expressed, Monday (2/23).

Commission E Highlights Need to Strengthen Jakarta's Cultural Identity

However, he warned that the expansion must not be half-baked. He insisted on clear benchmarks, ranging from meticulous planning and policy urgency to well-defined outputs and outcomes. This is crucial to ensure the program is not just empty talk and that the budget hits the bullseye.

Ghozi also stressed the importance of getting the basics right by ensuring undergraduate (S1) needs are fully addressed before branching out into doctoral funding. He hopes future KJMU recipients will be standout achievers, both academically and non-academically, who can provide a meaningful payback to the city.

"These factors must be taken to heart to ensure this great idea is executed optimally and runs like clockwork," he added.

Previously, Governor Pramono gave an inspiring pep talk to 16,920 Phase II (2025) KJMU recipients. He underscored that education is the ultimate key to breaking the cycle of family misfortune and social inequality.

The Jakarta government s doubling down on its commitment to the KJMU program, marking it as a flagship initiative with its quality set to level up continuously.

Beyond just the financial support, he encouraged students to cut their teeth in student organizations to build character and leadership skills. Meanwhile, the Education Agency (Disdik) is ensuring the aid hits the bullseye by ramping up guidance and mentoring to ensure the funds are used effectively.
