Jakarta Expands Free Homecoming Program Amid Surging Public Interest

The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) is facilitating free homecoming for residents heading home for Eid holiday. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung noted on Wednesday (3/11) that enrollment for the city's Free Homecoming program has significantly outpaced initial projections.

We have now verified and approved a final count of 30,774 participants

"Participation numbers have surged. We originally estimated 26,000 travelers, but due to overwhelming public interest, we have now verified and approved a final count of 30,774 participants," Pramono explained following a leadership meeting at City Hall.

To ensure every registered participant is accommodated, the government has scaled up its transportation fleet. In total, 709 buses have been mobilized to ferry residents to their respective hometowns. This program mass departure is slated for March 17, 2026, with the official kickoff taking place at the National Monument (Monas).

"That was the final resolution reached during today’s session," he confirmed.

Further, the Governor announced that fares for city-managed public transportation will be waived during Eid holiday.

"We have finalized the decision that on the day of Eid—whether for one or two days—transit services operated by the Jakarta government will be free of charge," he explained.

Jakarta Dishub Head, Syafrin Liputo added that registration for free homecoming program has officially closed. He confirmed, the expanded quota has been fully exhausted by participants who successfully cleared the verification process.

"The verified list of travelers swelled to 30,774—up from the initial 26,282. Despite the resulting strain on the bus fleet, only those whose status has been officially validated will be dispatched for the journey," he closed.
