South Jakarta Public Order Must Be Maintained, Says Anwar

Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri, South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar has urged all officials, community leaders, and residents to step up monitoring of public order and safety.

"We must remain alert and proactive to ensure the situation in South Jakarta stays conducive,"

He said that intensified monitoring and active community participation would help keep neighborhoods safe and free of street brawls.

"The presence of local officials in communities can foster a sense of respect and restraint, discouraging people from engaging in disruptive or undesirable behavior," he said, Tuesday (3/17).

He identified several areas requiring heightened vigilance ahead of the holiday period, including Tebet, Pancoran and Jagakarsa sub-districts.

He stressed that the areas, which lie along district borders, are more prone to clashes and unrest.

"We must remain alert and proactive to ensure the situation in South Jakarta stays conducive. Any incident could harm the reputation of local authorities and related institutions, particularly if it spreads on social media," he asserted.

He also urged parents to increase supervision of their children, noting that towards the end of Ramadan and during takbiran night (Eid eve chanting), youths often take part in convoys and late-night celebrations.

Anwar added that sub-district and urban village heads should strengthen engagement with residents, youth groups and community organizations to help prevent juvenile delinquency.

"They should attend religious gatherings and community events to engage directly with residents. We hope this will strengthen trust and promote harmony within the community," he noted.
