Jakarta Leaders Join Residents for Eid al-Fitr Prayer at City Hall

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Vice Governor Rano Karno joined residents and city officials for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri prayers at City Hall on Saturday (3/21).

"...to safeguard Jakarta as a shared responsibility,"

Also in attendance were Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Chairman Khairudin, former governor Fauzi Bowo, and several community figures.

The sermon was delivered by Indonesia's former vice president (2019–2024), Ma'ruf Amin, under the theme “Strengthening Ties and a Symphony of Victory for a Pure Jakarta”. The prayer was led by imam Heri Kuswanto, first-place winner of the 2029 International Quran Recitation Competition (MTQ) in Malaysia.

Pramono said the Eid prayer served as a momentum to strengthen unity, togetherness, and harmony, both among civil servants and the wider community.

"I urge residents to safeguard Jakarta as a shared responsibility," he emphasized.

He noted that the theme “Jaga Jakarta” (Protect Jakarta) reflects the city government's main spirit in religious activities.

"We hope that amid global challenges, Jakarta will remain a safe, comfortable, and prosperous city for all its residents," he added.

Pramono also praised the strong public turnout at the takbir night event at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout on Friday (3/21) evening.

"Despite the rain, public enthusiasm remained high, and the event ran safely and smoothly. Going forward, similar events will become a tradition with even better organization," he stated.

Meanwhile, in his sermon, Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that Eid al-Fitr marks not only a physical celebration, but also a moral and spiritual victory.

"Today is a noble day, filled with gratitude and reflection. Eid al-Fitr is a moment to return to our true nature, marked by purity of heart, honesty, and peaceful relations with others," he said.

He also noted that the halal bihalal tradition in Indonesia is a form of social ijtihad that strengthens unity as social capital in building civilization.

"Silaturahmi fosters trust, cooperation, and progress," he added.

He explained that observances during Ramadan are not only about strengthening one's relationship with God, but also about encouraging social care through zakat, infaq, and alms. He therefore urged residents to maintain unity in diversity.

"Differences are not to be opposed, but woven into harmony like a symphony. That is the true meaning of victory," he emphasized.
