Public Works Agency Keeps Improving Road Infrastructure Quality

The Jakarta Public Works (Bina Marga) Agency has praised residents' initiative to paint a zebra crossing on Jalan Soepomo, South Jakarta.

As a priority in its 2026 road marking maintenance plan

However, all road markings, including zebra crossings, must comply with applicable regulations and technical standards.

Bina Marga Agency Installs Warning Signs at High-Risk Locations

"Road markings, including zebra crossings, must follow applicable regulations and technical standards," stressed the agency's Data and Information Center Head, Siti Dinarwenny, Monday (3/30).

Wenny said compliance is crucial to ensure the safety of all road users, including pedestrians and motorists, as well as to prevent distractions that could affect driver concentration.

She also apologized, noting that a zebra crossing has yet to be provided at the location.

"This occurred due to routine road maintenance as well as sidewalk construction and upgrades at the end of 2025, which caused the existing zebra crossing to be covered by a new layer of asphalt," she explained.

Wenny added that road markings cannot be reapplied immediately after resurfacing, as thermoplastic materials require a dry road surface to properly adhere and ensure durability.

As a follow-up, the agency has designated the site as a priority in its 2026 road marking maintenance plan, including reinstating the zebra crossing.

"We remain committed to improving road infrastructure to support safety, comfort, and order," she asserted.
