I appreciate the work of Perumda Pasar Jaya in managing 153 markets
It is part of the Jakarta government’s broader commitment to modernizing all 153 traditional markets under the management of Perumda Pasar Jaya.
"I appreciate the work of Perumda Pasar Jaya in managing 153 markets. I have given the green light for the revitalization and repair of several markets, starting here today," he stated.
Sunan Giri and Gardu Asem Markets Proposed for RenovationPramono stressed that traditional markets are strategic assets for the community, acting as centers for both social and economic engagement. Consequently, he is pushing for revitalization and modernization to be implemented in every market throughout Jakarta.
He targets a market transformation that encompasses not only the physical buildings but also the transaction systems. Implementing non-cash transactions is believed to help prevent criminal activities.
"I truly hope that the digital payment methods we have implemented and promoted—which, alhamdulillah, were successful and saw a 47 percent increase in transactions at that time—will continue to improve," he explained.
He believes that implementing digital payments and revitalizing traditional markets can become a blueprint for collaboration between local governments and BUMDs to improve market management and boost the economy.
Perumda Pasar Jaya President Director, Agus Himawan explained that the projects are funded through Regional Capital Injection (PMD). The budget for Kramat Jaya Market stands at Rp 10.2 billion, while Gardu Asem Market is set at Rp 10.6 billion.
"We faced several technical hurdles, but thankfully we’ve cleared them all, enabling us to break ground today," he added.
According to him, traditional markets are vital to the socio-economic fabric and community independence. As such, these revitalization projects aim to enhance services for both vendors and customers.
The two markets will feature a range of facilities, such as prayer rooms, disabled-access toilets, clean water systems, nursing rooms, parking areas, fire hydrants, solar panels, CCTVs, and waste disposal points. Notably, Kramat Jaya Market will also include sports facilities while preserving the traditional market's local character.
"We have also made sure that Gardu Asem traders can keep their businesses running during construction by providing them with temporary stalls at Nangka Bungur Market," he added.
No vendors were affected at the Kramat Jaya site as the project is being built on an empty lot. Construction at Kramat Jaya is scheduled to wrap up in late January 2027, followed by Gardu Asem in late March 2027.
The 1,735-m² Gardu Asem Market in Kemayoran, which has 79 existing vendors currently relocated, will eventually house 80 kiosks and 128 stalls.
In Cilincing, the 2,617-m² Kramat Jaya Market will be developed to feature 49 kiosks and dedicated sports facilities on its second floor.
