Palmeriam Market Adopts QRIS Digital Payment System

Jakarta is advancing its digital economic and financial transformation through the Inclusive Market Digitalization 3.0 program, with Palmeriam Market in Matraman, East Jakarta, adopting digital transaction systems.

Commitment to creating a more modern, efficient, and integrated market ecosystem

Deputy Head of Bank Indonesia's Jakarta Representative Office, Lily Mochamad Sadeli, said the program is a joint initiative between Bank Indonesia, the Jakarta Provincial Government, Perumda Pasar Jaya, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Jabodebek, and payment service providers.

QRIS Transactions in Jakarta Continue to Grow

She said the program, officially launched on February 13, 2026, targets 20 traditional markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya and runs for one month.

"This third phase of inclusive market digitalization reflects our commitment to creating a more modern, efficient, and integrated market ecosystem as a driver of Jakarta's economy," she highlighted, Wednesday (4/8).

Lily noted that the program has boosted non-cash transactions, especially via QRIS, reflected in the rising number of new merchants.

"We have also recorded increases in both the volume and value of digital transactions, including supporting services such as parking and other market facilities," she added.

Perumda Pasar Jaya President Director Agus Himawan Widiyanto said the company continues to encourage traders to shift to digital payments. Of the 153 traditional markets it manages, 60 have adopted digital systems.

"This year, we target 50 more markets and will continue coordinating with OJK, Bank Indonesia, and banks to provide education for traders," he explained.

Support for the program has also come from market traders. A cake vendor at Palmeriam Market, Aimul Chairi (45), said he has been using QRIS for the past three years and has directly felt its benefits.

"Customers now prefer non-cash payments. It's more practical, there's no need to prepare a lot of change, and it's safer from fake money," he said.
