Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, attended the launch of the Jakarta Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) Week at the Marta Christina Tiahahu Literacy Park, Melawai, Kebayoran Baru.
This will further educate the public to use QRIS as a payment method
In his speech, Rano admitted to being surprised and appreciated that the realization of digital payment using QRIS in Jakarta reached 45 percent of the total nationwide figure.
"I was somewhat surprised to hear from BI that nearly 50 percent of national QRIS users are in Jakarta. That's just the initial design, and it's already almost 50 percent; imagine if it were fully designed," he expressed, Wednesday (8/13).
Digitalization Encourages Jakarta Economic GrowthHe believes that the high number of QRIS users is due to several factors such as internet connectivity and a strong economic foundation. This achievement is indeed not entirely the result of a design.
Therefore, he strongly supports the National QRIS Week (PQN) activities initiated by the Jakarta Representative Office of Bank Indonesia, from August 11 to 17, 2025.
"Hopefully, this will further educate the public to use QRIS as a payment method," he explained.
He went on say that previously, Governor Pramono Anung also held a digital competition at the market. He also emphasized that this was part of education about digital payment.
"I believe that once it's designed, it could be about 75 percent complete this year. Thus, when Jakarta celebrates its five hundredth anniversary in 2027, the results will be even better," he asserted.
Jakarta Branch Bank Indonesia Representative Deputy Head, Yosamartha, explained that Jakarta's economic growth in the second quarter remains resilient, recording a figure of 5.18 percent, higher than the national rate of 5.12 percent. This growth rate increased from the previous quarter's approximately 4.95 percent.
He explained, QRIS transactions account for around 43 to 45 percent of the national figure, contributed by Jakarta. He emphasized that through this PQN activity, Jakarta will be encouraged to become a globally digital city with culture.
Therefore, at the PQN Jakarta event 2025, they intentionally held the QRIS Jelajah activity in addition to various educational programs, UMKM bazaars, and cultural performances.
QRIS Jelajah is a contest event for content creators highlighting stories about digitalization in the exotic regions of Jakarta. This series of activities aims to introduce Jakarta not only to the whole of Indonesia but also to the international community.
"Hopefully, with this digitalization, we can make Jakarta a global city, a digital city with culture," he hoped.
