The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to push for stronger integration of mass transportation in the city, including through the construction of a Commuter Line (KRL) station in the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area.
"Making it easier for spectators from various areas,"
The program is being implemented through coordination between the Jakarta Provincial Government, the Ministry of Transportation, and PT Kereta Api Indonesia, with support from PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) as the area manager.
Jakpro Targets August 2026 for LRT Jakarta Velodrome-Manggarai LaunchJakpro President Director Iwan Takwin said strengthening and integrating public transportation has been one of the city's ongoing priorities in recent years.
The effort is being carried forward through various strategic programs, including improving accessibility to the JIS area as a new hub of public activity in North Jakarta. He noted that the station's presence will be a game changer in supporting JIS operations as a whole.
"The KRL station will be located on the north side of the stadium, making it easier for spectators from various areas, especially from Jakarta Kota and Tanjung Priok, to reach the venue directly without needing to transfer between modes of transport," he said on Friday (4/10).
Iwan explained that the JIS KRL station development is more than infrastructure, as it is integrated into a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept in North Jakarta.
He added that the integration is designed to link multiple transport modes with active public spaces, positioning JIS as both a stadium and a multipurpose venue.
"With this approach, the JIS area is expected to develop into an integrated activity hub, ranging from sports and entertainment to community events, supported by public transportation that is accessible, convenient, and sustainable," he highlighted.
Iwan noted that the station is set for completion by June 2026, and is expected to enhance crowd management for large-scale events, from football matches to international concerts.
With its high passenger capacity, he added, KRL can help ease traffic congestion, which has been a major challenge in the JIS area.
"The KRL can transport thousands of spectators efficiently. This is crucial, especially for events with up to 82,000 attendees, to ensure smoother entry and exit flows," he stressed.
In addition, the station is expected to encourage a shift from private vehicles to public transportation, significantly reducing congestion on Jalan RE Martadinata and surrounding areas during major events.
"Overall, strengthening public transportation access also supports JIS in meeting international standards, including FIFA requirements, while increasing its potential to host global events," he said.
