A 1,000-square-meter area beneath the elevated train tracks on Jalan Mangga Besar, Mangga Dua Selatan, Central Jakarta, has been undergoing revitalization since January to make it more aesthetic and lush. The project involves approximately 25 personnel of PPSU from the Mangga Dua Selatan (Madusela).
It's now a useful space for Madusela residents
Mangga Dua Selatan Sub-district Head, Ernawati stated that the cleanup was necessary as the area was neglected and had become a gathering place for vulnerable groups.
"The once-dilapidated area under the Mangga Besar train tracks has been cleared and organized. It's now a useful space for Madusela residents," she expressed, Wednesday (4/15).
Commission B: Market Revitalization as a Model for ModernizationShe explained that the makeover is designed to be educational for local children, offering a park, a social space, and a mini-basketball area. To liven things up, the railway pillars have been decorated with murals of sea creatures and outer space.
"We’ve teamed up with a hotel’s CSR initiative. As they are renovating their property, they’re providing us with building rubble to use as a foundation for the landscaping and gathering areas," she added.
Her office is also collaborating with the Central Jakarta Youth and Sports Sub-agency to provide mini-basketball facilities.
"We have also requested the sub-agency to repair the lighting infrastructure at the badminton court. Therefore, there are two sports facilities available within this revitalized area," she stated.
She envisions the site becoming a vibrant community hub where residents can connect, stay fit, and gain new knowledge.
