Dozens of Illegal Buildings on Mati Riverbank Controlled

Dozens of joint personnel from Sawah Besar District controlled semi-permanent illegal buildings along Mati Riverbank, Jalan Rajawali Selatan XII, Gunung Sahari Utara, Central Jakarta.

Head of Sawah Besar District Satpol PP, Darwis Silitonga said as many as 14 semi-permanent buildings that were standing illegally on the banks of the Mati River were removed to follow up on residents' aspirations.

"The existence of illegal buildings is often used as a place for a number of people to consume alcohol and hang out and street crimes such as mugging and pickpocketing often occur," he said.

He added that the area will be arranged by the urban village side.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of Rasela Urban Village, Ikhwan Julio Akbar stated his party will arrange the area along the banks, such as creating parks and urban farming by planting productive plants such as chilies and pak choy.

"The area arrangement to be started at the end of April and is targeted for completion in June 2026," he stated.

His party will also install fencing to anticipate semi-permanent buildings being erected again on the banks.

"We will fence it using painted bamboo to make it look beautiful and natural," he admitted.
