251 Pets on Sabira Island Successfully Vaccinated and Sterilized

Seribu Islands Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency conducted free sterilization and anti-rabies vaccination for 251 pets on Sabira Island, Harapan Island, Seribu Utara Island District.

Head of the Sub-agency, Nurliati said this activity is part of the ongoing commitment of the Jakarta Provincial Government to maintain Jakarta's rabies-free status while improving animal welfare, especially in coastal areas.

"This activity is a collaboration between the sub-agency and the Let's Adopt Indonesia community. We also focus on maintaining environmental health through animal population control," she said, Friday (4/17).

She explained that the sterilization program was carried out to prevent a surge in the feral cat population which could potentially disrupt the balance of the ecosystem and environmental aesthetics.

"Rabies vaccination is given as an initial mitigation measure to protect the public from the threat of this deadly disease," she explained.

She detailed that 77 cats had been sterilized, consisting of 31 males and 46 females. Furthermore, 174 other cats were also vaccinated against rabies.

"Through this preventive measure, we hope to create a healthy, safe, and rabies-free environment in the Seribu Islands in a sustainable manner so that people feel comfortable in carrying out their activities," she added.

Meanwhile, Head of RW 03, Harapan Island Urban Village, Muhammad Ali Kurniawan stated this annual routine program has a positive impact on residents, especially in maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of residential environments.

He urged residents to continue supporting government programs by being proactive in reporting the health conditions of their pets.

"Hopefully we can create a healthy, safe and comfortable environment for everyone," he stated.
