Illegal Buildings on Cakung Drain Riverbanks Controlled

As many as 31 illegal buildings used as illegal traders on the green area of Cakung Drain riverbank, Jalan Kembangan Baru, Kembangan Utara Urban Village, West Jakarta, were controlled by 100 joint personnel of Satpol PP, Army, Police, Water Resources, City Park and Forestry, Environment Sub-agency, and PPSU 

made the area look slum

Head of Kembangan District, Joko Suparno said the activity was run to improve order and environmental comfort. Besides not having permits, according to Joko, the presence of traders on the banks of the Cakung Drain River has made the area look slum.

"We've issued warnings, including issuing a final SP3 the day before yesterday. However, since they ignored this, we're taking action today," he said.

The existence of buildings belonging to illegal traders on riverbanks violates Regional Regulation Number 8/2008 about public order.

Joko admitted that he would propose utilizing green land assets by providing a number of facilities such as jogging tracks and pedestrian paths.

"But of course we will study and discuss what is most beneficial according to the needs of local residents," he admitted.
