Suckerfish Control in North Jakarta Reaches 493 Kilograms

North Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency keeps accelerating the suckerfish control. Since April 17, 2026 until now, a total of 493 kilograms of suckerfish have been caught from various water locations.

Head of North Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency, Novy Christine Palit said his team has conducted an inventory of the waters in each urban village to map the habitats of the suckerfish. These locations will then be used as regular mass fishing locations.

"Today's suckerfish control was carried out in the Agung Perkasa 8 Connecting Channel in Sunter Jaya Urban Village, Tanjung Priok District, with a catch of 51 kilograms. The activity will then expand to other areas in six districts," she said, Tuesday (4/28).

Legislators Support Public Involvement in Suckerfish Control

Several locations that will be the next targets include the Kendal River in Rorotan Urban Village, Cilincing District; Kodamar Lake River in Kelapa Gading Urban Village; Melayu Bendungan River in Rawa Badak Selatan Urban Village, Koja District; Pluit Reservoir in Pluit Urban Village, Penjaringan District; and Mati River in West Pademangan Urban Village.

"The fish will be cut first, then buried to prevent environmental impact," she added.

The Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development of the North Jakarta City Secretary, Wawan Budi Rohman, stated that this activity is scheduled to take place routinely every week, namely on Tuesdays or Thursdays at different locations in each urban village.

"We hope that with this step the population of suckerfish can be controlled so that the balance of the aquatic ecosystem in North Jakarta is maintained," he hoped.
