Commission D Pushes for Equal Infrastructure Access in Supporting Areas

Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission D Chairperson, Yuke Yurike, emphasized that infrastructure development should not only focus on major tourist areas, but must also reach supporting regions.

According to Yuke, improvements to infrastructure such as road access, street lighting, sidewalks, and connectivity to public transport need to be carried out evenly across areas, rather than concentrated in iconic locations like Blok M.

"If we are talking about Jakarta as a global city, we should not only focus on tourist centers or city icons, but also ensure that other areas, especially access to public transport or hubs, have adequate infrastructure," she said on Tuesday (4/28).

Going forward, Yuke added, Commission D supports the Jakarta administration’s programs to improve other strategic areas. However, attention to supporting areas remains crucial to maintain connectivity and public convenience.

Beyond equitable distribution, Yuke also stressed the importance of material quality and supervision in road construction. She said road repairs should go beyond patchwork if underlying issues have not been resolved.

"Roads are frequently repaired but soon damaged again due to underlying problems, such as inadequate drainage or unstable soil conditions. These must be fixed first for more lasting results," she explained.

Yuke also highlighted the need for proactive measures by field personnel to conduct routine monitoring without waiting for public complaints.

She acknowledged that weather continues to pose challenges for infrastructure repairs. However, the dry season is expected to be used to optimize road improvements that have so far been temporary.

"If there is minor damage, it should be handled immediately. There is no need to wait for reports so the condition does not worsen," she asserted.
