Jakarta to Build Three Waste-to-Energy Plants in Partnership with Danantara

The Jakarta government is set to sign a cooperation agreement with Danantara to develop Waste-to-Energy (PLTSa) power plants.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the PLTSa plants will be constructed in Bantargebang (West Java), as well as in Tanjungan and Sunter (North Jakarta).

"Today, the Jakarta government will sign a cooperation agreement with Danantara for two Waste-to-Energy plant locations—one in Bantargebang and another in Tanjungan, Kamal Muara," he expressed, at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (5/4).

The development of this waste management infrastructure serves as a commitment from the Jakarta government to resolve the city’s long-standing waste issues. This project will complement existing infrastructure, namely the Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant in Rorotan, North Jakarta.

He noted that the Rorotan RDF Plant is already operational and currently handling waste accumulation from various regions across Jakarta.

"As a result, Jakarta will have three waste-to-energy power plants, in addition to the RDF Rorotan which is already in operation," he added.

Beyond focusing on infrastructure, the Jakarta government will also mandate residents to sort their waste. In the near future, the provincial government and the Ministry of Environment will officially declare a waste-sorting initiative in Jakarta.

"I have signed a Gubernatorial Instruction regarding the waste-sorting process. Shortly, we will collaborate with the Environment Ministry to declare a waste-sorting movement in Jakarta," Pramono explained.

This declaration is part of a collective waste-sorting movement that has already been initiated in several areas, such as Rorotan and Cilincing.

"Hopefully, by next week, this will become a massive movement implemented across all administrative cities in Jakarta," Pramono concluded.
