New Sports Facilities in Manggarai to Curb Street Brawls

The South Jakarta City Administration plans to develop sports infrastructure in the RW 04 area of Manggarai, Tebet, as part of an effort to nip negative activities, including street brawls, in the bud.

We have spearheaded various initiatives

South Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar, stated that the project is a follow-up to a directive from Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during the "Manggarai Bershalawat" event. It is also part of a broader strategy to address social issues in the area.

"We have spearheaded various initiatives. We hope the development of these facilities will be effective in tackling the existing problems," he expressed, while presiding over a planning meeting at the South Jakarta Mayor's Office, Tuesday (5/5).

Three Pillars Patrols in Jatinegara Increased to Prevent Brawls

Anwar explained that the designated site is located at the RW 04 park on Jalan Manggarai Utara, spanning approximately 1,137 square meters. The land is officially recorded under the Asset Inventory Card (KIB) A of the South Jakarta Parks and City Forests Agency.

He added that a site inspection has been conducted alongside the Parks Agency, the Youth and Sports Agency, and other related stakeholders. Besides sports facilities, the site is planned to house an integrated "Three Pillars" (military, police, and local government) security post.

"The sports facilities will feature a multi-purpose court designed by the Youth and Sports Agency, allowing it to be utilized for various community activities," he explained.

In its execution, the South Jakarta Administration is joining forces with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Foundation, which plans to assist in the facility's construction.

"Hopefully, once all requirements are met, we can hit the ground running with the construction. We also look forward to the full support of all stakeholders and the local community," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Tebet Sub-district Head Putut Puji Linangkung, added that his side has also proposed the renovation of the Bukit Duri Community Hall to serve various residents' activities.

"We hope all these plans can be realized soon so that residents' activities become more positive and well-directed," he concluded.
