Jakarta Govt, Danantara Ink Deal to Build Waste-to-Energy Facilities

The Jakarta government and Danantara Indonesia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the acceleration of Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facility construction at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs building in Central Jakarta.

Today, Jakarta proves that the directive is not merely a figure, but real action

The agreement was witnessed directly by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Home Home Tito Karnavian, and other high-ranking officials.

Governor Pramono previously stated that the PSEL construction would take place in Bantargebang, West Java, and Tanjungan, North Jakarta. The project aims to reduce the volume of waste at the Bantargebang Landfill.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, stated that the cooperation agreement for the PSEL construction serves as evidence of the commitment of both the Jakarta government and the central government to national waste management. This effort is crucial, given that Jakarta’s daily waste accumulation has reached 9,120 tons.

"The signing of this joint agreement between the Jakarta government and Danantara to accelerate the construction of Jakarta's PSEL demonstrates the seriousness of the local and central governments in national waste management," he explained, Tuesday (5/5).

He explained that Jakarta’s waste emergency, which requires collaboration from various parties, has received special attention from President Prabowo. According to him, addressing waste issues necessitates rapid, coordinated, and integrated solutions from upstream to downstream.

Zulkifli also expressed appreciation for Governor Pramono’s commitment to resolving the waste problem through the development of waste-to-energy technology, which provides significant benefits to the community.

"Today, Jakarta proves that the directive is not merely a figure, but real action. I appreciate the tangible commitment of Jakarta Governor, as well as Home Minister, who continues to support this waste-to-energy transformation," he concluded.
