The city's significant progress is inseparable from the role of women
He made the remarks while opening the “Modern Kartinis: Women Choose” interactive discussion at Balai Agung, Jakarta City Hall, on Thursday (5/7).
Kartini Day Commemoration in West Jakarta Declares Empowered WomenCarrying the theme “Growing Without Limits, Empowered Without Barriers,” Pramono stressed the importance of gender equality across sectors. He noted that nearly half of strategic positions within the Jakarta Provincial Government are currently held by women.
"Several highly strategic positions, including those responsible for flood management, are held by women. Bappeda, Bapenda, and others are led by women. Because of that, issues concerning women in Jakarta are relatively minimal," he said.
According to the 2025 Gender Development Index, Jakarta ranks among the top provinces in Indonesia with a score of 95.5. Pramono said women's contributions are also reflected in the city's improving development indicators.
He cited data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), which showed the number of slum neighborhood units (RW) in Jakarta dropped significantly from 445 in 2017 to 211 in 2026. He said the achievement was driven by women working on the ground, including PKK members, Dasawisma groups, and Jumantik cadres.
Women's contributions were also reflected in Jakarta's economic growth, which reached 5.59 percent, with inflation remaining under control at 2.32 percent.
"Jakarta is truly grateful for the real contributions women have made on the ground," he asserted.
Pramono also highlighted Generation Z's perspective on women's emancipation. According to him, Gen Z no longer sees Kartini merely as a historical figure in traditional attire, but as a symbol of financial independence and freedom to express themselves.
To accelerate Jakarta's transformation into an inclusive, progressive, and open global city, Pramono stressed the importance of giving Gen Z maximum space to grow.
"They are a generation that no longer sees gender as a barrier, but as a spectrum of strengths that can collaborate equally," he said.
He also called on women to continue working together to build an inclusive, humane, equal, and open city. According to him, the Jakarta Provincial Government will provide equal opportunities for women and men to grow, thrive, and make choices without barriers.
Meanwhile, Jakarta TP PKK Chairperson Hani Pramono Anung said women have enormous potential to continue growing, developing, and becoming empowered. She stressed the importance of ensuring women have equal access across sectors.
"Women's empowerment must be carried out comprehensively, not only by opening access and opportunities, but also by creating a sense of safety and building an environment that fully respects women's roles," Hani emphasized.
She added that women play a crucial role in Jakarta’s development, from shaping future generations within families and contributing in professional and economic fields to becoming social drivers within communities.
"We must ensure Jakarta becomes a safe and inclusive city for women and children, whether in family spaces, public spaces, or digital spaces," she noted.
The event also included the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Jakarta Provincial Government and PT Transportasi Jakarta to strengthen an inclusive workplace environment and improve the prevention and handling of gender-based sexual violence within the company.
In addition, business assistance was provided to female Jakpreneur MSME owners with disabilities and women survivors of violence to support economic independence.
