Governor Pram Appreciates Residents for Keeping Jakarta Safe and Comfortable

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the residents for their collective efforts in maintaining a safe and comfortable environment in the capital.

Jakarta is now the second safest city in ASEAN after Singapore

Pramono highlighted that the smooth execution of various interfaith activities late last year serves as a testament to Jakarta’s current stability. Events such as Colossal Christmas Carol, Nyepi (Day of Silence), Lunar New Year, Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and other religious festivities were held successfully without any disruptions.

"I am grateful because many issues that used to cause tension have now transformed into a sense of safety and comfort in Jakarta," he expressed, after flagging off the "Interfaith Harmony and Diversity Fun Walk" in celebration of Jakarta Archdiocese's 219th Anniversary at the Cathedral Church grounds, Saturday (5/9).

He also extended his appreciation to the Catholic congregation under Jakarta Archdiocese for their active role, alongside other residents, in safeguarding the city.

"Jakarta is now the second safest city in ASEAN after Singapore. This achievement would not have been possible without the contribution of the Archdiocese of Jakarta," he explained.

Sharing this sentiment, Religious Minister, Nasaruddin Umar, described Jakarta as one of the most peaceful and harmonious cities in Southeast Asia.

"Jakarta is the second most harmonious and peaceful city in Southeast Asia, surpassing many other nations. This is a historic milestone, as proven by recent surveys," he remarked.

Meanwhile, KAJ Cardinal, Archbishop Mgr. Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo, emphasized that the 219th Anniversary celebration was more than just a ceremonial event; it was a profound effort to strengthen brotherhood and interfaith harmony.

"We hold this event every year to give thanks for God’s guidance throughout the history of Jakarta Archdiocese, which is an inseparable part of the history of the Indonesian nation," he stated.

He added that the anniversary is an embodiment of the commitment to nurture and develop friendship, brotherhood, and togetherness as fellow Indonesian citizens.

"May this togetherness be our collective way to serve God and love our country. Our overflowing joy cannot be fully expressed in words, but we manifest it with deep gratitude through this fun walk," he concluded.
