Waste Sorting Socialization Intensified in South Jakarta

The South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency conducted socialization on waste sorting and processing from source in accordance with Governor's Instruction Number 5 of 2026 about Waste Sorting and Processing from Source.

building a culture of waste sorting

The socialization, which took place in the hall of the South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency Office, Kalibata Urban Village, Pancoran District, was attended by 50 participants consisting of representatives of district heads, urban village heads, and RW heads throughout South Jakarta.

Waste Sorting Promoted on Tidung Island

Head of the Community Participation Section of the South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency, Hendrik Mindo Sihombing, said that this activity is a step to strengthen the region's role in realizing sustainable waste management.

"We emphasize the importance of collaboration between the government and the community in building a culture of waste sorting starting from the household," he said.

He added that sorting waste from the source is an important step to reduce the amount of waste sent to the Bantar Gebang landfill while increasing the utility value of waste through proper processing.

According to him, the community needs to start implementing various methods of processing organic and inorganic waste in a simple, effective, and sustainable way in their respective environments.

"As the government, we will of course provide infrastructure for segregated waste management, conduct socialization and education for the community, and monitor its implementation. We also plan to provide incentives for neighborhood units (RT/RW) that successfully manage waste," he explained.

He hopes that people will become more accustomed to sorting and managing waste directly from the source so that a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment can be created.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Community Empowerment Subgroup of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, Susi Andriani, said that people need to start creating micro waste processing facilities in their respective homes by sorting waste from the dining table.

"If we can properly sort waste at home, the amount of waste dumped at the Bantar Gebang landfill will be significantly reduced. Moreover, the jumbo biopore and modern teba programs are being promoted," she stated.
