Cakung Receives 264 Fire Extinguishers for Fire Prevention

The East Jakarta City administration is intensifying fire prevention efforts in densely populated residential areas, marked by the distribution of 264 free portable fire extinguishers (APAR) to residents in the Cakung Sub-district.

Six fire extinguisher units will be distributed to RWs

Cakung Sub-district Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sector Head, Nyaman, stated that the extinguishers have already been distributed to RTs and RWs identified as high-risk fire zones.

"This year, an additional six fire extinguisher units will be distributed to RWs that have not yet received this assistance," he expressed, Wednesday (5/13).

He explained that having fire extinguishers readily available in residential areas is vital as a first-response measure when a fire breaks out.

"By responding quickly while the flames are still small, the potential for a large-scale fire can be minimized," he explained.

Nyaman added that, ideally, every RT—or even every household—should have its own fire extinguisher. However, due to budget constraints, the distribution of this aid must be conducted in stages.

"I urge residents to maintain and use these fire extinguishers properly," he added.

Further, he reminded the public to remain vigilant in preventing fire hazards, especially as Jakarta is currently in the midst of the dry season.

"Ensure that electrical equipment and gas stoves meet safety standards. I also strongly remind residents not to burn trash within residential neighborhoods," he concluded.
