Closure of Railway Level Crossings Socialized

The South Jakarta City Government and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) have begun publicizing plans to close illegal railway crossings between Tebet, Cawang, and Manggarai Stations. This measure is intended to prevent accidents at level crossings lacking adequate safety systems.

11 dangerous locations

As an initial step, the South Jakarta City Government, in collaboration with PT KAI, has installed warning banners at several illegal crossings on the Tebet-Cawang route. In addition, socialization to the surrounding community is ongoing.

Tebet Deputy District Head, Bayu Fadayen Gantha, said that before the closure, his team had conducted a survey at a number of illegal crossing points or unguarded crossings.

"A survey has revealed at least 11 dangerous locations. However, our priority now remains road users," he said, Wednesday (5/13).

Bayu explained that coordination with PT KAI is ongoing to determine which crossing points will be closed and which will be maintained with a number of security measures.

According to him, this strengthening includes adding personnel and preparing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safety of road users and train passengers.

"The closure in Tebet-Manggarai is likely to be carried out after the closure in Tebet-Cawang is implemented," he added.

Head of Tebet Station, Muhammad Zul Faroki appreciated the Tebet District government's support in this matter.

"We are continuing to coordinate intensively with the plan for 11 points between Tebet and Cawang Stations," he stated.

Meanwhile, a resident of Kebon Baru Urban Village, Eva (34) said she supported the plan to close the illegal crossing because she thought it could reduce the risk of accidents.

"Unofficial crossings are very dangerous, especially because many people still dare to cross even though the train is approaching. Better to close it," she admitted.
