Rasuna Said Car-Free Day to Return in June 2026

The Jakarta Provincial Government has temporarily suspended Car Free Day (CFD) activities on Jalan HR Rasuna Said on Sunday (5/17), with the event scheduled to resume in June 2026 after several issues identified during the evaluation are addressed.

CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said is planned to resume in June 2026, every Sunday from 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM

"CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said is planned to resume in June 2026, every Sunday from 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM," said Jakarta Transportation Agency Syafrin Liputo on Saturday (5/16).

Rasuna Said CFD Seen as New Standard for Jakarta Public Spaces

According to him, the CFD trial held on May 10 left several evaluation notes, including the lack of turnaround points at both ends of the corridor, missing Transjakarta lane barriers, and illegal parking at several locations.

The arrangement of MSMEs also needs improvement, as some traders expanded into the roadway. Meanwhile, ongoing roadwork along alternative routes continued to cause traffic congestion.

The Jakarta Transportation Agency also noted uneven road surfaces following the dismantling of monorail pillars, as well as crowd buildup around Plaza Festival that pushed runners and cyclists into Transjakarta bus lanes.

Syafrin ensured that the issues would be addressed through coordination with the cross-agency CFD task force. The Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing a legal framework for the implementation of CFD along Jalan HR Rasuna Said.

"Supporting facilities and public activity management will be improved to ensure CFD on Rasuna Said runs more safely, comfortably, and orderly," he asserted.

Despite the shortcomings, the evaluation showed that the Rasuna Said CFD brought benefits to residents, both in terms of public space and environmental quality.

According to Syafrin, the Rasuna Said CFD serves as an alternative public space where residents can exercise and socialize.

"Air quality measurements around the area during CFD were also better compared to regular workdays," he added.

He explained that Rasuna Said CFD also helped reduce crowd density in the Sudirman–Thamrin area.

Based on data from the Jakarta Transportation Agency, the number of visitors at the provincial-level HBKB corridor on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman–MH Thamrin dropped from 29,256 people on May 3, 2026 to 13,759 people on May 10, 2026, a decrease of around 52.97 percent.

The Jakarta Provincial Government hopes the new CFD corridor will expand public access to urban public spaces for exercise and social interaction.

"This condition shows that CFD on HR Rasuna Said can help disperse crowds from the Sudirman–Thamrin area so public activities become more evenly distributed," he said.
