S. Jakarta Installs 345 Jumbo Biopore Holes, 40 Modern Teba

The South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency recorded that as of mid-May 2026, it has constructed 345 jumbo biopore holes and 40 modern teba (organic waste pits) across residential areas and government offices.

This program is a follow-up to Governor's Instruction Number 5/2026

South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency Head, Dedy Setiono stated that the construction of these jumbo biopores aims to suppress the generation of household organic waste while reducing dependency on sending waste to the Bantar Gebang Landfill.

"This program is a follow-up to Governor's Instruction Number 5/2026 on the Movement for Waste Sorting and Processing at the Source," he expressed, Thursday (5/21).

He explained that the jumbo biopores and modern teba are spread across 10 sub-districts. Cilandak recorded the highest number of installations with 87 points, followed by Jagakarsa (42 points), Kebayoran Baru (38 points), Kebayoran Lama (23 points), and Mampang Prapatan (42 points).

"In Pancoran, there are 46 points, followed by Pasar Minggu 31 points, Pesanggrahan 24 points, Setiabudi 21 points, and Tebet 31 points for jumbo biopores and modern teba," he explained.

His agency has distributed 2,300 biopore bins out of a total of 2,400 available units. The construction of all biopore holes is targeted for completion by early June 2026.

Besides building organic waste processing facilities, the South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency is also intensifying socialization efforts regarding waste sorting "from the dining table" to residents, urban village heads, sub-district heads, and other related stakeholders.

"Hopefully, the waste management made by both the community and the government can run optimally. This way, the cessation of general waste disposal to Bantar Gebang Landfill by August 1, 2026, can be successfully implemented," he concluded.
