BUMD`s CSR Programs Encouraged to Focus on Jakarta's Waste Management

The Chairman of the Special Committee for CSR of the Jakarta City Council, Ghozi Zulazmi, encouraged the distribution of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from BUMDs to be prioritized for waste management and the needs of Jakarta residents.

many other public needs that require CSR support

According to Ghozi, CSR distribution has not been fully focused on the interests of Jakarta residents. In fact, his team has found that some regional-owned enterprise (BUMD) CSR programs are being distributed outside the capital.

BUMD CSR Programs Must Align with RPJMD

He emphasized that, as a company owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government whose capital comes from the Regional Budget, the use of CSR should be prioritized to solve various problems in Jakarta.

"There are still many other public needs that require CSR support, from the education to social sectors," he said.

On the other hand, the CSR Special Committee also requested that reports on CSR distribution between BUMDs be made more detailed to facilitate the City Council's oversight function.

"We ask that the report be made more detailed, clearly stating the location, beneficiaries, and nominal value distributed," he added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of the CSR Special Committee, August Hamonangan, requested that ceremonial CSR programs be diverted to address pressing issues such as waste and sanitation.

According to him, there are still around 3,000 families in Jakarta who do not have hygienic septic tanks.

August added that shifting the CSR budget below 10 percent can be decided through a board of commissioners meeting without having to wait for the GMS.

"This is a real problem directly related to the environmental health of Jakarta residents. This is where the CSR of regionally-owned enterprises should come in and provide a quick solution," he stated.
