Kelapa Lilin Connecting Channel Dredged to Prevent Floods

Efforts to dredge sediment and trash from the Kelapa Lilin Connecting Channel, Jalan Raya Kelapa Lilin, Kelapa Gading Timur Urban Village, Kelapa Gading Sub-district are being intensified by the North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency. As of now, the progress of the operation stands at 30 percent.

North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency Head, Heria Suwandi stated that the channel is being dredged as a routine effort to maintain optimal drainage function and prevent flooding during heavy rainfall.
"Hope this will facilitate the water flow downstream, ensuring the surrounding environment is safer and free from any flow obstructions," he expressed, Tuesday (5/26).

The work area covers a 470-meter stretch with a width of four meters; so far, 140 meters have been cleared.
"The dredging is being done manually in phases since April 15. We are committed to maximizing our efforts to ensure everything is finished by July," he added.
In light of this, locals are urged to play their part in keeping the channel clean by refraining from littering to keep the drainage system functional.
"Thank you to the public for their continued support. We will continue to be present to ensure the city's drainage remains optimal for the convenience of all North Jakarta residents," he explained.
Aside that, This work received appreciation from one of the security officers, Arya (45).
"Whenever it rains, the water often reaches capacity and inundates the road. We are in favor of this dredging and will join in keeping the channel clear of waste," he admitted.
