Reported by Tiyo Surya Sakti | Translated by Nugroho Adibrata
Jakarta authorities are moving quickly to repair a collapsed road section on Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta. The incident, located near Gang Empang, has forced the closure of two lanes, resulting in heavy traffic toward Depok.
Traffic management and rerouting measures were immediately implemented to ease congestion
To manage the situation and ensure public safety, the Jakarta Transportation Agency and related departments have initiated traffic diversions in the affected area.
Jakarta Transportation Agency Acting Headz Ujang Hermawan said, public safety remains the top priority in addressing the incident.
Repairs Initiated Following Road Collapse in Lenteng Agung"We recognize that the community's daily activities have been disrupted by this road collapse. To solve it, traffic management and rerouting measures were immediately implemented to ease congestion while ensuring the continued safety of all road users. We also apologize for any inconvenience caused," he expressed, Friday (5/29).
He urged motorists to adjust their travel routes and follow the instructions of officers on the ground while the restoration efforts are underway.
The implemented traffic engineering schemes are as follows:
1. Two-wheeled vehicles are still permitted to pass through the rightmost lane of Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung.
2. The rerouting of motorcycles is being managed on a situational basis, directing them through Jalan Gardu, Jalan H. Shibi IV, Jalan H. Shibi II, and Jalan H. Shibi, exiting eventually onto Jalan Akses UI.
3. Four-wheeled vehicles heading toward the University of Indonesia (UI) and Depok are being diverted to make a U-turn at the Universitas Pancasila railway crossing (JPL 23). From there, they may proceed via Jalan Lenteng Agung Barat, Jalan Kahfi II, and Jalan Tanah Baru toward Depok Sawangan.
4. Heavy-duty vehicles are being diverted from the TB Simatupang intersection westward via the Depok-Antasari (Desari) Toll Road, or eastward via Jalan Raya Bogor and Jagorawi Toll Road.
"We call on road users to remain cautious when traveling near the location and, whenever possible, to utilize the designated alternative routes," he stated.
He noted that the collapse had developed progressively since Wednesday (5/27). To ensure public safety, the South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency promptly applied cold-mix asphalt as a temporary measure.
"They (Bina Marga) is working closely with the SDA Sub-agency to identify the cause. Initial assessments indicate the collapse was caused by issues with the drainage pipes beneath the road," he stated.
Ujang emphasized that the Jakarta government is closely monitoring the site and accelerating repairs to restore normal traffic conditions.
"Currently, 20 personnel have been deployed to the field to mitigate traffic delays throughout the handling process," he affirmed.
