The Jakarta Provincial Government through the Public Works Agency and the Water Resources Agency handle the collapsed road on Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Friday (5/29) morning.
Rapid handling
The Water Resources Agency took initial action by repairing the damage to the drainage channel beneath the road, which caused the road to collapse. The agency is currently continuing to repair the drainage channel.
Lenteng Agung Traffic Rerouted Amid Road CollapseHead of Data and Information Center for Public Works Agency, Siti Dinarwenny, said his party, through the South Jakarta Public Works Sub-agency, continues to monitor and be on standby at the location to continue repairing the road pavement after the water channel construction has been completed by the SDA Agency.
"For driver safety and to reduce congestion, temporary measures were taken to close the collapsed road with metal plates as an emergency escape route. Traffic management, including lane closures, is also implemented to allow traffic to continue through the area," she said.
This rapid handling is carried out in coordination with the SDA Agency, considering that initial indications showed that the cause of the road collapse was damage to the water channel construction under the road body.
After the initial handling by the Jagakarsa Public Works Implementation Unit was completed on Thursday (5/28) morning at around 9 AM, the Jakarta Water Resources Agency team conducted an inspection of the water channel at the location of the collapsed road.
"Based on the results of the field inspection, it was discovered that the condition of the soil under the road body had become hollow, so that further comprehensive handling was required by the SDA Agency," she explained.
Further monitoring of the temporary handling of the collapsed road site was conducted on Thursday afternoon (5/28) by the Jagakarsa Public Works Implementation Unit. The monitoring revealed that the road had collapsed and cracked again.
It was then discovered that the road had completely collapsed and widened to cover two lanes on Thursday night. Based on coordination with the Water Resources Agency, the agency is addressing the damage to the drainage system beneath the road as a permanent measure, and this work is currently underway.
"The Jakarta Provincial Government urges the public and road users to be careful when passing through the area and to comply with the traffic regulations that have been implemented for the safety of all," she appealed.
