Central Jakarta Administration Acts Swiftly to Handle Kebon Kosong Fire

The Central Jakarta City administration acted promptly to provide assistance to residents affected by a fire in RW 04, Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran.

It is reported that the blaze, which occurred late Monday (6/1), razed 250 semi-permanent houses located behind Jiung Market.

Kemayoran Sub-district Head, Dicky Suherlan stated that the fire, which ravaged hundreds of homes in Gempol, RW 04 Kebon Kosong, has left 354 households—totaling 679 individuals—displaced.

"The fire lasted for more than three hours before being brought under control at around 11:30 PM. It is believed that an electrical short circuit in a local home triggered the blaze," he remarked on Tuesday (6/2).

He further detailed that the fire resulted in three residents sustaining injuries; they were immediately rushed to Hermina Hospital and Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.

"Immediately after the fire was put out, we set up five temporary shelters through a joint effort with the Social Agency, BPBD, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and police/army. Emergency food supplies have also been distributed to those affected," he stated.

Baznas Bazis Central Jakarta Coordinator, Raja Zamzani explained that 650 breakfast portions have been prepared for the fire survivors in RW 04 Kebon Kosong, alongside the provision of a drinking water station for the next three days.

"The breakfast menu being served consists of chicken porridge or yellow rice. We have also set up a drinking water station on-site," he emphasized.
