Accelerating Jakarta`s Global City Development, Pramono Inaugurates Urban Knowledge Hub

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung inaugurated the Urban Knowledge Hub at the Nyi Ageng Serang Building in Karet Kuningan, South Jakarta, Monday (6/8). The Urban Knowledge Hub aims to support Jakarta's transformation into a global city based on quality data, research, and scientific evidence.

Everything is done scientifically

Pramono said that Jakarta now has three main instruments to meet the requirements of being a modern and global city: the Jakarta Future Festival, the Jakarta Urban Knowledge Hub, and Jakarta Innovation Day.

"Hopefully it will make Jakarta, which is serious about its global city index, rise to the top 50 and hopefully one day become the top 20," said Pramono.

Pramono added the presence of the Urban Knowledge Hub will shift Jakarta's development paradigm. In the future, city planning will rely not only on common sense but also on scientific data and technology.

He gave examples of a number of decisions taken using a scientific and data-driven approach, such as in the transportation sector, the construction of PLTSa, and urban spatial planning.

"Everything is done scientifically, using data, and that is what differentiates planned development from development that only develops according to the increasingly dense population levels in society," he added.

Meanwhile, Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Stella Christie, emphasized the importance of synergy between the central and regional governments, academics, and industry in developing Jakarta using scientific data and technology.

She stated that currently, Jakarta has the potential to become a magnet for international academics who want to continue their education and conduct research.

"So what we have to do is how, together with the local government, we can carry out all these research and higher education activities together between the central and regional governments, which will make Jakarta an International Talent Hub," she stated.

According to her, Jakarta's potential to become an International Talent Hub will also have a positive impact on the city's economy and the welfare of its people.

"So the economic well-being of a city is closely related to the presence of research and universities which of course gather talent," she explained.

As for information, the Jakarta Urban Knowledge Hub is a platform for open collaboration, bringing together government, academics, the private sector, and communities.

This cross-sector synergy is needed to address Jakarta's critical issues, from climate change and housing to urban resilience, digital transformation, and urban mobility.
