600 Joint Personnel Deployed to Crack Down on Illegal Parking

The Jakarta Transportation Agency launched a simultaneous illegal parking operation across the city on Monday (6/8).

A total of 600 joint personnel were deployed for the operation, which also involves the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), the Population and Civil Registration Agency (Disdukcapil), the Social Agency, the Indonesian Military (TNI), and the National Police.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Budi Awaluddin said the operation will run for a full week.

“A total of 600 personnel are participating in this joint roll call and will simultaneously crack down on illegal parking and illegal parking attendants across Jakarta's five administrative cities,” Budi said while leading the roll call at Monas in Central Jakarta.

He explained that during the second week, the operations will be carried out three times a week, followed by twice a week in the third week before a comprehensive evaluation is conducted.

According to Budi, the operation aims to restore roads to their intended function as public mobility corridors and reduce illegal parking practices that often contribute to traffic congestion.

During the operation, officers will implement several enforcement measures, including deflating tires and towing illegally parked vehicles.

“We urge residents not to park in prohibited areas. We will take enforcement action through towing and deflating tires,” he asserted.

Budi noted that one of the main factors behind the persistence of illegal parking in Jakarta is that some motorists continue to park in areas marked with no-parking and no-stopping signs.

The situation is worsened by illegal parking attendants who direct vehicles to prohibited areas. As a result, officers are targeting not only illegally parked vehicles but also illegal parking attendants. Budi said Disdukcapil and the Social Agency are verifying the identities of those caught in the operation.

“If they are found not to be Jakarta residents, they will be returned to their home regions through coordination with the Social Agency. Meanwhile, Jakarta residents will receive guidance in accordance with applicable regulations,” Budi explained.

He added that the operation is focused on 15 locations that have long been identified as illegal parking hotspots.

In West Jakarta, enforcement is being carried out in Cengkareng, Kalideres, and Kembangan areas. In Central Jakarta, operations cover Kebon Sirih, Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim, and Thamrin City.

Meanwhile, in South Jakarta, enforcement targets the Casablanca area, Jalan HR Rasuna Said, and Jalan Prof. Dr. Satrio. In North Jakarta, operations are being conducted in Kelapa Gading, Pademangan, and Tanjung Priok. In East Jakarta, enforcement covers East Jatinegara, West Jatinegara, and Jatinegara Station area.

“Limited parking facilities also remain a challenge that requires attention. Therefore, the Transportation Agency and Satpol PP will continue monitoring and enforcement efforts in the field to maintain traffic order and ensure the comfort of road users,” he said.
