Paseban Urban Village Intensifies Waste Sorting Socialization

Paseban Urban Village, Senen, Central Jakarta, is actively conducting socialization and education to residents to get used to sorting waste at the source.

A clean environment starts with small steps

Head of Paseban Urban Village, Citra Arum Purdiarini said one of the efforts made by her party was to install Sorting House stickers in the residential areas of RW 02 and 03 some time ago.

Waste Sorting Socialization Intensified in South Jakarta

"Sticker installation will continue in six other neighborhood units (RW) gradually to encourage residents to practice sorting their waste at the source," she said.

The placement of the Sorting House sticker is a form of appreciation and motivation for other people to participate in creating a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.

"A clean environment starts with small steps taken consistently by residents by sorting waste from its source," she added.

She continued that eight RW waste banks in the area have been operating optimally.

"Residents in eight RWs have been routinely selling inorganic waste such as plastic bottles and so on to the RW waste bank at a price of Rp 6,000 to Rp 8,000 per kilogram," she continued.

Meanwhile, organic waste in RW 01, 02, 03, 04, 06 and 08 was transported by Senen District Environmental Service Unit officers to be processed into maggots and compost.

Then RW 07 has independently processed organic waste using the black fly method to decompose it. Meanwhile, RW 05 processes organic waste using eco-enzymes.

"We are optimistic that we can reduce household waste by up to 50 percent," she admitted.
