Public Works Agency Repairs Damaged Elevator at JPO Lenteng Agung

Repairs are underway on the elevator's electrical system at the Lenteng Agung Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, following an act of vandalism.

The elevator will be back in operation soon

Jakarta Public Works Agency Data and Information Center Head Siti Dinarwenny said the damage was caused by severed electrical cables, which rendered the elevator inoperable.

"We are currently carrying out repairs and handling the issue. We hope the elevator will be back in operation soon," she said on Wednesday (6/10).

She apologized to the public for the disruption to the pedestrian bridge elevator service following the vandalism that damaged the facility on Tuesday (6/2).

"Based on field inspections, several electrical cables connected to the elevator were found to have been cut, making the elevator unusable," she explained.

She urged residents to help protect and maintain public facilities provided by the government, noting that public infrastructure is a shared asset that benefits all residents when properly maintained.

"Let's take care of Jakarta's public facilities to ensure comfort, safety, and ease of mobility for everyone," she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Public Works Agency officer Rudi, who is stationed at the Lenteng Agung Pedestrian Bridge, said the damage was suspected to have been caused by cable theft.

"The elevator was operating normally at first. When we came to work on Tuesday, it was no longer functioning. After an inspection, we found that the cables had been cut and were suspected to have been stolen," he explained.

Meanwhile, Lia Yulianti (40), a JPO user, hoped the repairs could be completed soon so the pedestrian bridge would be fully accessible again.

"I appreciate the swift response to repair the damage so the Lenteng Agung Pedestrian Bridge elevator can be used again," she said.
