Buton Alley Drainage Upgraded to Mitigate Flood Risks

Personnel from the Water Resources (SDA) Executing Unit, Cipayung Sub-district, East Jakarta, are revitalizing the drainage system at Buton Alley, Jalan Malaka, RT 03/07, Munjul Urban Village.

The work, which involves a seven-personnel, has been underway since May 21, 2026

Cipayung Sub-district SDA Executinh Unit Head, Dian Kartika stated that the channel revitalization spans a 70-meter stretch, utilizing 40x40x120 cm U-ditch units equipped with concrete cover slabs.

"The work, which involves a seven-personnel, has been underway since May 21, 2026, and is slated for completion in early July," she remarked, Monday (6/15)."

She explained that to facilitate the project—which serves as a follow-up to residents' proposals submitted during the Development Planning Forum (Musrenbang) 2026—the team has allocated 58 precast U-ditch units and 116 concrete covers.

"Thus far, the construction progress has reached approximately 43 percent," she clarified.

According to her, it was undertaken because the existing infrastructure was no longer fit for purpose, consisting only of a narrow four-inch piping system. This limitation resulted in suboptimal water management during high rainfall.

"As a result, water often inundates the street, hindering daily activities and affecting the residents' quality of life," she explained.

In the meantime, Munjul Urban Village Secretary, Indrawan Jaya Purnama, underscored that the restoration of the water channel was an urgent priority to avert flooding in the area.

"Thank God, the project is underway. We are deeply grateful and highly commend this initiative," he expressed.

He urged residents to collectively maintain the cleanliness of the drainage system, particularly by refraining from littering.

"When channels are kept clean, free from blockages and sedimentation, the risk of flooding can be effectively mitigated," he emphasized.
