Floral Displays Adorn North Jakarta Public Spaces for Jakarta Anniversary

In celebration of Jakarta’s 499th Anniversary, the North Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency is enhancing public areas with decorative plants. This landscaping initiative adopts a lush, natural aesthetic, consistent with Jakarta’s vision of becoming a sustainable global city.

North Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency Head, Reina Camelia, stated the landscaping of these public areas is centered on the theme 'Green Symphony of a Global City, Jakarta Toward Five Sustainable Centuries.'

She noted that the flower parks are more than mere decorations; they symbolize Jakarta's progress while remaining committed to environmental preservation.

“We’re using a variety of flowering plants like roses, marigolds, chrysanthemums, orchids, and monstera. We’ve also added miniature ornaments of the number 499 and a cruise ship to the decorations,” she expressed, Thursday (6/18).

She mentioned that the size of the decorations differs by location to fit the space and environment, keeping everything proportional and in tune with the neighborhood.

"We are focusing on three main spots: the North Jakarta Mayor’s Office lobby and front terrace, the Kelapa Gading-Perintis Kemerdekaan intersection, and the median of Jalan Yos Sudarso near the North Jakarta Police headquarters," she explained.

She hopes the flower parks will make the surroundings feel fresher and more pleasant for locals and staff alike.

"Besides their aesthetic appeal, these plants bring a touch of nature that helps employees and the public feel more relaxed," she added.

She noted that the vibrant floral displays will decorate public areas and remain available for public enjoyment through the end of June.

"Let’s work hand-in-hand to build a sustainable, inclusive, and globally competitive Jakarta. Collaboration is the secret to our success—Jakarta moves forward when we all move forward as one," she remarked.

Meanwhile, Maryati (44), who lives in the Marunda Flats, said she was impressed with the North Jakarta Mayor’s Office’s new look, which she thinks looks a lot fresher.

"The flowers are so pretty and attractive. It really is a nice treat for the eyes while waiting for my paperwork to be done. I even stopped to take a photo because the setting is just great," she admitted.

She wants to see the city keep improving its services and environment for the people's well-being as it gets closer to its 500th year.

"Hopefully, Jakarta keeps progressing, stays green and pleasant, and makes things even easier for the people who live here," she hoped.
