Residents's Aspirations Key to Jakarta's Development, Says Pramono

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said listening to residents' aspirations is essential to advancing Jakarta and making it a safer and more comfortable city.

Leaders must listen to what people want

At the Cita Loka Festival 2026 in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (6/24), he stressed that development should focus not only on infrastructure but also on addressing residents' needs.

Jakarta`s Development must Be aligned with Residents` Aspiration

"For me, if Jakarta is to become a better, more advanced, comfortable, and safer city, the most important thing, besides building infrastructure, is listening to what residents want," Pramono said.

Pramono noted that his commitment to listening to public aspirations has been a priority since the beginning of his administration.

This includes seeking input from Jakarta's previous leaders in addressing long-standing issues, such as the dismantling of the monorail pillars, the development of Sumber Waras Hospital, and the construction of a connecting bridge between the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) and Ancol.

He added that community participation in various activities, including religious celebrations, plays an important role in fostering harmony and peace in Jakarta.

"Leaders must listen to what people want. They should not build things that are not needed by the community," Pramono asserted.

Pramono explained that infrastructure projects undertaken by the Jakarta Provincial Government are also guided by residents' needs. He cited the construction of the Dukuh Atas pedestrian deck, which will integrate multiple transportation services, including commuter rail, MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, and Mikrotrans.

In the digital era, the administration also listens to residents' concerns through platforms such as the JAKI super app and the Citizen Complaint Response (CRM) system.

"We have handled nearly 299,000 complaints. That means almost 98 percent have been resolved," he added.

However, he stressed that responding to public complaints should not be treated as a mere formality. Maintaining public trust in the Jakarta Provincial Government, he said, is the ultimate priority.

Pramono noted that Jakarta has climbed in global rankings as a result of ongoing improvements, moving from 74th to 71st place in the Global Cities Index.

The improvements include expanding public transportation services to surrounding areas, enhancing waste management, and strengthening flood mitigation efforts.
