Basuki Prohibits Parcel Peddler Selling on Sidewalk of Jl Cikini

Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama prohibits parcel peddler setting up stall on the sidewalk, Jl Cikini Raya, Central Jakarta. This is because its existence will lead to traffic jam.

"I've told them (parcel peddler) since a long time ago. They insisted, may we sell ahead of Eid ul Fitr? I said you can't. You will cause traffic jam," he stated, at City Hall, Wednesday (6/15).

He explained they would attract other peddlers to join. Considering the buyer prefers to peddler outside building. "They must be accommodated inside building, but they insisted would fight for shoppers. Actually, it will harm peddler inside," he stressed.

They have been given a decent place to sell. In last year's demolition, parcel peddler relocated to Jalan Ujung Penataran. But in Ramadhan, they recklessly desperate to sell back on the sidewalk.

"This makes me upset. I give them thigh, but they want heart," he said.

Previously, Menteng Sub-district Head, Ahmad Fahri had recorded parcel peddler along Jalan Cikini Raya. There are 68 peddlers who are largely reasoned only sell during Ramadaan.
