Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Chair Suhud Alynudin voiced his support for the expansion of the city's clean water pipeline network but urged authorities to ensure the project is carried out in an orderly and timely manner while prioritizing public safety and convenience.
Public safety must be the top priority
According to Suhud, residents' complaints about the construction work deserve serious attention. Some have raised concerns over traffic congestion, noise, and narrowed roads caused by excavation work along several roads.
PAM JAYA to Achieve 100 Percent Clean Water Coverage"We fully support the clean water project because it will bring significant benefits to the public. However, its implementation must also minimize disruptions on the ground so residents are not continuously inconvenienced," Suhud said on Friday (7/3).
He noted that the government and project contractors should provide clear timelines for completing the work. Projects that drag on, he added, only place a greater burden on residents, particularly road users and businesses near construction sites.
"There must be a clear timeline for completion, and the work should be completed as quickly as possible. The project must not drag on and continue generating the same complaints," he asserted.
Suhud also stressed the importance of safety throughout the construction process. He called on contractors to ensure every work site is equipped with safety barriers, traffic signs, and adequate lighting to prevent accidents.
"Public safety must be the top priority. Safety measures at construction sites cannot be overlooked because they directly affect the lives and safety of road users," he said.
He also urged the government to pay attention to residents directly affected by the project, particularly those whose businesses or access to their neighborhoods have been disrupted.
"If residents have suffered direct losses because of the project, authorities should consider appropriate compensation or fair solutions so they know their concerns are being addressed," he added.
Suhud expressed hope that the government and all relevant parties would carry out a comprehensive evaluation to ensure the clean water network project stays on schedule without compromising public safety, convenience, or daily activities.
"We want this project to succeed and improve clean water services, while ensuring residents remain safe, comfortable, and supported throughout the construction process," he pointed.
