PPAPP Agency Strengthens Parent`s Role in Protecting Children from Violence

The Jakarta Provincial Government through the Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (PPAPP) Agency held Simultaneous Family Counseling in 267 urban villages throughout Jakarta.

Child protection is the responsibility of all parties

This activity is part of an effort to strengthen family resilience while increasing public awareness regarding the importance of protecting children through positive parenting.

PPAPP Agency Committed to Improving Quality Public Services

In this activity, the community is invited to understand the importance of parental supervision and support for children by filling out a parenting reflection survey.

The survey helps parents identify the extent of their role in accompanying, supervising, and protecting their children in their daily lives, and also serves as evaluation material to strengthen parenting patterns in the family environment.

Head of Jakarta PPAPP Agency, Dwi Oktavia said the family is the first line of defense in preventing violence against women and children. Therefore, strengthening the family's role must begin with increasing parental awareness in supporting children's growth and development.

"Child protection is the responsibility of all parties, not just the government. We want to encourage every family to be more present in their children's lives, build warm communication, and provide loving supervision," she said, Monday (7/6).

Based on data from the Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPT PPPA) of Jakarta Province, throughout 2025, there were 2,269 cases of violence against women and children recorded.

This number equates to an average of six cases per day. However, this figure is estimated to underestimate the true situation, as there may be unreported cases.

One of the messages conveyed during the counseling session was the importance of spending time with family in the evenings. Starting at 6 PM, children are expected to be at home to study, worship, rest, and communicate with their parents. This support is expected to reduce various risks that could threaten children's safety and future.

Dwi explained that the Jakarta Provincial Government also provides family consultation services through PUSPA (Family Service Center) as a form of support to the community.

This service provides counselors from various fields, such as psychology, parenting, law, nutrition, reproductive health, lactation, entrepreneurship, financial planning, and counseling related to narcotics and HIV/AIDS.

"The public can access these services directly at the Jakarta Provincial PPAPP Office or online via the puspa.jakarta.go.id page," she explained.

Meanwhile, to handle cases of violence against women and children, the public can utilize the complaint service available 24 hours through the Jakarta Siaga 112 Service, telephone 0813-1761-7622, or WhatsApp 0852-1786-6445 and come directly to the Jakarta Province Women and Children Protection Center Office on Jalan Raya Bekasi Timur KM.18 Pulogadung, East Jakarta.

Through this program, the Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that more families will understand the importance of positive parenting, strengthen communication within the family, and be able to prevent various forms of violence from an early age.

"This socialization isn't just about conveying information to the public, but also about raising awareness that child protection begins at home. When parents are present, aware of their children's activities, and build good communication, the risks of violence, exploitation, and even misuse of technology can be prevented early on," she stated.
